How to Make a Surprise Pull-down Card - Meaningful Hidden Message - Happy Mother's Day

It's that time of the year when you get to express your love and gratitude to the light of your life - your Mother. There's nothing more meaningful than an eloquent Pull-Down Card to surprise your Mom with the emotional message that comes from your heart.

If you want to take a closer look, here is my tutorial video. Have fun watching!

Tools and Materials:

  • Kraft paper

  • Cardstock

  • Pen

  • Paper knife

  • Ruler

  • Scissors

  • Glue gun

  • Dried flowers for decoration

Now, without further ado, grab your stuff and get started with me!

1. Write your message

Write down a touching message for your Mother. I suggest using a gel pen for nice and smooth handwriting. Remember to leave a space on the top and keep the rows within 5cm in width.

Cut the message out.

For the Pull handle, cut a small piece of Kraft paper. Then, apply glue with a glue gun.

Attach that piece to the message. Remember the piece needs to be glued to the bottom of the message, not the top.

2. Base card

Prepare a 14cm x 16cm piece of Kraft paper for the base card.

Then, cut out a 12cm x 11cm piece of cardstock. I used the beige color to match with the vintage brown of the Kraft paper.

Glue the cardstock to the top-middle part of the base card.

3. Message holder

Prepare another piece of Kraft paper. But this time the size is 9cm x 10cm.

Use the paper knife to cut 2 lines, 5cm each, in the middle of that piece. The lines should be close to each other.

Use the scissors to cut out the part between the 2 lines to create a narrow slot, just as shown.

Curl the piece into a tube shape and glue it together.

Glue a Kraft piece around one end of the tube to give our message holder a retro and charming look.

Do the same with the other end. There you go! Our lovely message holder is done.

4. Assembly

Glue a long flat Kraft piece to the back of the message, on which side there is no Pull handle.

Roll the message into a tube around that flat piece. Remember, your touching words need to face outwards so that your Mom can easily see them.

Cut off the excess parts of the long piece.

Leave some space on the 2 ends to secure the message inside of the holder when pulling out.

Put the message inside the holder.

And you're done with the whole pull-down message.

Glue the message to the base card. Now it's time for decoration!

5. Finishing touches

For decoration, I used the white dried flowers to offer a vintage look to the card.

Write "Happy Mother's Day" to celebrate this lovely and meaningful day of the year.

Our beautiful card is finally complete.
